Can’t Rain on our Clambake

Neither rain nor monsoons will stop Teams Whalebone, Design Within Reach and Tequila Don Julio from having a clambake at Hero Beach House

T

he forecast called for cloudy skies with a100-percent chance of Tequila Don Julio. Which meant even the threat of rain of could not keep 35 of our closest friends away. And the evening delivered on counts. The rain was polite enough to wait until we had enjoyed the complete tasting program of Tequila Don Julio Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, 70 Añejo Claro, and then it even held out long enough for the 1942.

When the rains came with biblical force, fortunately we had a hideaway at the Hero Beach Club to weather the storm in. And equally luckily, the gift bags contained some pretty nice beach towels from our friends at Design Within Reach that provided some cover. And if they didn’t give enough cover, at least we had something to dry off with.

A crack team of commandos made certain none of the Design Within Reach chairs that were not meant to get wet, got wet. The folks on hand to enjoy the festivities of tequila, bubbles, lobster, clams, bubbles and good times were not as lucky. At least when it came to getting doused. Everyone felt pretty lucky otherwise. Especially after the rain let up and we all got to see how well s’mores pairs with Don Julio 1942 and champagne.
