GENERAL INFORMATION

How is The Flow Trip different from Whalebone Magazine?

Not much is changing in these parts. Thankfully for us it’s the same team, same dog, but just with a new name and improved look that, we feel, better aligns with our new partners at Flow.

What is Flow?

Flow has a big old important mission: oneness, with ourselves, neighbors, and nature. That mission is not exclusive to Flow, at least we hope not. We think people’s homes are a great place to start. Traditionally, renting an apartment ain’t great. When creating Flow the company realized that rent is 34% of the average person’s wallet spend, the highest share of what goes out the door. This story gets worse before it gets better, the current experience of renting an apartment tends to lack feelings of joy, community, or happiness. There seems to be a universal misunderstanding that good humans are looking for just a place to live where they feel isolated when really they want a place to have a life and not feel lonely.

That’s where the new partnership with Whalebone Magazine comes in, a well-established outlet that aligns with Flow’s mission. All that said, Flow is helping good people live a connected life in buildings and environments that make them feel good and valued, while feeling like a home. The Flow Trip is the media side of that with quality storytelling, content, and experiences that showcase what Flow is all about.

Will there still be clothing?

Jesse at Whalebone Apparel is still going strong. As you may or may not know, Whalebone originated as a clothing brand in 2010 and will continue on as Whalebone, selling the soft stuff from their new digs in the heart of Montauk. Be sure to stop by the shop at 28 S. Etna Montauk, NY 11954, and say hi to Jesse, or check out whaleboneapparel.com. The magazine is off on a new path.

Will there still be The Afternoon Delight and The Sunday Morning Playlist?

You bet. The Afternoon Delight, the almost-daily newsletter you know and love, is still as delightful as ever. And all your toe-tapping needs will continue to be delivered via The Sunday Morning Playlist. Some things never change.

Will there still be a 2024 Photo Contest?

Yes is the word. The 2024 Photo Contest will open up on May 20th. Keep an eye out on our social channels and emails for more details and announcements coming soon.

Are there going to be events that I can attend?

While we’re putting a pause on The Surf Thing and The Golf Thing for the time being, The Flow Trip events will take place on a similar basis to Whalebone, but now not only in New York, but Miami and other locations around the world in the future. Look for The Flow Trip team in a blue bus coming to a town near you.

Will I still be able to access digital content on the Whalebone website?

All digital content previously published on whalebonemag.com will now be available at The Whalebone Archive. Lots of good ones in there. All new digital content will be published on The Flow Trip’s website moving forward.

What about the shops?

As not fun as it is to say, our locations on Bleecker and both in Montauk are currently closed. But thanks for the memories and to anyone who ever came by and grabbed a coffee or patted the dog on the head. And who knows what the future holds.
