By chance, we located Roark once again on the edge of civilization in Volume 11. This time in the Clayoquot Sound of Vancouver Island British Columbia, Canada in the grasp of a cold winter making its way south. We enlisted Revivalist Raph Bruhwiler and Captain Ry Cam of the vessel “Pretty Girl” to help us in our search for Roark in the Sound. Spirits of multiple kinds both hindered and aided in our efforts but ultimately we found what we came for.
For our trip to Vancouver Island’s Clayoquot Sound we wanted to shape a board that was fit for the waves there and for the type of surfing we wanted to do. Our friends at Shaper Studios had recently opened a studio in Vancouver and we thought it would be fitting to shape a bonzer with them. We took our First Nation textile print that was inspired by the indigenous people of the Clayoquot Sound and did a fabric inlay on the deck of the bonzer. Creating a really rad piece of ride able art. We didn’t end up getting the size or type of surf we were hoping for to ride the bonzer in but we did get a bunch of super fun waves and ended up having a rad trip surfing with just our crew of Revivalists which was the point of the trip in the first place so, we were stoked!
In conjunction with Shaper Studios, Roark would like share our experience with you by providing an opportunity to shape a replica of the Volume 11 Clayoquot Sound bonzer with one lucky winner. From there the road calls and your adventure awaits. Where will it take you to christen your bonzer? Make sure and tag #ArtifactsOfAdventure so we can follow along.
