A break in the line-up, on the mountain for Bum Rush

Likely not a little-known fact nowadays but you should still take note. Just because you’re in the snow, doesn’t mean you can skimp on the sunscreen. That’s something we’ve heard a few times from our friends over at Sun Bum. Over the summer we were able to join them for their Jacksonville Beach stop on their Bum Rush Tour, a pop-up surf competition. But for this edition—Bum Rush takes it to the mountains of California, specifically Mammoth Mountain for their first-ever pop-up snowboarding competition. Staking out the signs the SB team took over the day—and although they were not able to get SB mascot Sonny inflated due to the wind, Mammoth’s mascot Woolly was able to make an appearance. While it’s not a day on the beach, the players had the perks of playing without such persnickety conditions. The windblown judges included: Justin Romano (Mammoth crew member), Stefi Luxton (Local Pro/ New Zealand native) and Lenny Mazzotti (Sun Bum ambassador & Big Bear local Jib wizard). After a few dozen runs, wind-smacked judges’ chairs, and “immaculate vibes” winner Keyser Murphy came in late to the comp but away with the gold, sparkling cider, and an extra $1000 for his bank account. Not bad for a casual day out on the slopes. And as one contestant mentioned, “If I win the Bum Rush I’ll double my bank account.” Been there friend, been there.
Whalebone will be following along with Sun Bum for the next few stops on the tour, stay tuned to see where they pop up next. More than likely back in the water and maybe somewhere near your town. They’ll bring the sunscreen and swag, we’ll try to bring the immaculate vibes.
For a full recap of the day take a look at a few snapshots and a better than good video to encompass it all. And of course, from team Sun Bum’s POV.
