Recently you might have heard through the grapevine about Whalebone creating a Wine Issue, and then maybe something else about creating our own wine. (And what the hell do we know about creating wine? Turns out nothing. That’s why we asked for a little help. So thank you to Vanessa Price of Ev&Em Vineyards.)

And maybe you heard something else about how Matt is “missing” a case of the Whalebone Razahto, but that’s a different conversation, and sorry if you overheard that conversation. It’s just he’s always misplacing things and the accountant is constantly breathing down our back about being more responsible. We’ll find it, don’t worry.

All that to say, the red blend is crushable and the raaaazhato is crisp and both are best served chilled with a few of your best friends at a little shop on the corner of Bleecker and Christopher. Welcome to the magazine and wine party.

Seems we were talking about something else. Ah, The Wine Issue. In celebration of the release, we had a few of our favorite wine critics and would-be wine critics over to the West Village for an evening of tasting and reading. DJ William Grand was kind enough to stop in and spin some tunes to make a glass and a half of wine an even better time than it already is.

It’s not the worst idea in the world to have a table full of Shake Shack ready and waiting for any party involving wine. Which is why we decided to have two tables filled with Shake Shack burgers and french fries as a little palate cleanser for folks as they sipped away. Some takeaway pairing notes from the crowd seemed to be the Razahto goes great with crispy french fries and the Whalebone Red Blend is only made better after taking a bite of a burger.

So far, the reviews have been great and the consensus is that it goes well with a good time. An all-around win for us. Sorry, you couldn’t make this one James, but maybe next time. Special thanks to Starborough Wine, Nocking Point Wine, and Oliver Winery for, well, the wine. And the good time.
