North X Northeast: Mikey DeTemple

Surfer and filmmaker Mikey DeTemple shares a season of snaps

When you think of Mikey DeTemple on surfboard, you’re probably picturing an ease and a flow.

His quiver is full of of shapes and sizes—from fishes and weird finless experiments to classic longboards—but he surfs it all with he same easy going grace. He’s said that he draws inspiration from the ’60s and ’70s, and this long arching lines, plus, of course, the style. In his photography, you can definitely see and feel the same throwback tendency and inspiration from that same era, though in so many of the images Mikey sent of his Northeast adventures—surfing, sailing, diving—there’s also a timeless quality. They could have been shot last week or 1968.

The way a day of surfing should end.
